Anyone who's dreamed of quitting their job has fantasized about how they would do it. But one man in the U.K. got particularly creative, giving his manager a condolence card announcing his resignation.
one of our team members handed in their notice like this πππ

The card was the handiwork of Sam Baines, 22, who was quitting his job at a call center in Sheffield, England, in order to go back to college. He bought a fairly standard condolence card, with "So very sorry for your loss" written on the front and "Thinking of you at this difficult time" on the inside. And then he wrote, "My last day of work is the 28th July," on the top.
And, in spite of how it might look, it wasn't a passive-aggressive move. "We are a really close team and have a fantastic manager, so we're always joking around and having fun," Baines told Insider. "I knew I had to do something a little more creative when giving my notice to try and get one more joke in before I left!"
Luckily, the joke landed very well with both his manager and the rest of his team.
"I knew my boss would find it funny, so I wasn't worried about how they'd take it," he said."I came up with the idea because I was always joking about how much they'd miss me when I was gone, then thought a condolences card would be the perfect way to finish it off. It went down great and helped make a positive from an otherwise sad situation."
Baines' colleague, Hannah, who posted the tweet, confirmed that anyone who thinks the card was meant to be snarky has got it all wrong.
"Everyone was laughing and pretty amused with the card," she told Insider. "It was done in good spirit and not as a petty reaction as some people think."
Since it was first posted on Wednesday, the tweet has amassed 76,000 retweets and plenty of applause from people who thought it was quite a bold move.

Some said that they not only quit in the same way but also even used the exact same card.
I know someone who did exact same thing , exact same card π

In fact, using a condolence card to quit your job is apparently now a thing that people do.
Omg! We used the same card!! π

One Twitter user named James really took it up a notch by including a dramatic photo and writing, "My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire department as you attempt to move on. Please know, while I am gone, I will never be forgotten."
I took it just a bit further.

And if cards aren't your thing, buying a cake and throwing yourself a retirement party is also an option.
My mom retired similarly. No one but HR knew she was going to retire that year, then she emailed "Cake in the breakroom" to her whole office.
(Cake reads "Happy Retirement To Me") and she left for good 30 minutes later, full pension and all. Lol
